Mary Rajkumar, global investigations editor of the AP and a governor of the OPC, served as moderator. This program was the OPC’s latest in a “How I Did It” series, which explores behind-the-scenes insight from reporters and editors about exceptional reporting.
During the program, Brito and Dana talked about how they first encountered the story and decided to turn it into a deeper investigation, the challenges of reporting a multinational story with scant sources and resistance from governments, their process in gathering evidence and identifying victims, the emotional difficulty in delivering tragic news to loved ones, and some of the differences in their approach.
