VIDEO: Lowell Thomas Award Winners Share Their Stories

On June 19, the OPC hosted an online discussion via Zoom with this year’s winners of the Lowell Thomas Award for best radio, audio, or podcast coverage of international affairs.

The award went to NPR’s Rough Translation podcast for their two-part series “The Search,” which follows the disappearance of Kurdish photojournalist Kamaran Najm and the story of his friends and family’s mission to track down him and his ISIS captors.

The program included award winners Gregory Warner, Karen Duffin and Sebastian Meyer, moderated by Ann Cooper, Professor Emerita of the Columbia Journalism School who served as head judge for this year’s Lowell Thomas jury.
