Job Opening: Editor – World Policy Journal

The World Policy Journal is seeking a new editor to guide the editorial operations of the 34-year-old publication. WPJ publishes a print quarterly, online commentary, and a podcast—currently with a full-time staff of two. The successful candidate will lead all aspects of magazine production. The editor needs vision to set a unique editorial agenda; strong line- and copy-editing skills; the ability to manage and mentor a small team; and a keen understanding of the contemporary media environment.

The major responsibilities of this full time position include the following:

  • Attract high-quality writers with fresh perspectives on key issues, with a particular emphasis on developing a diverse set of non-U.S.-based writers
  • Identify cover themes for each issue of the magazine
  • Set the tone, editorial direction, and policies for publication
  • Ensure that WPJ reflects the WPI general mission
  • Maintain authority as final word on published articles and images, as well as on design and layout
  • Manage and oversee editorial staff and interns
  • Re-engage and develop the WPJ Editorial Board;
  • Generate new ideas for improving overall media experience
  • Increase the circulation of WPJ
  • Act as publisher point person: discussing issues, plans, and other business items relating to the publication
  • Serve as a public face and advocate for WPJ, making public appearances and promoting the brand as needed
  • Serve as member of the Institute’s executive team, contributing to broader strategy and operational effectiveness discussions; presenting at quarterly board meetings; and serving as a liaison between editorial team and the board of directors.
