AWARD HONORED WORK: “On the Way to Zimbabwe”

A month before Rhodesia became Zimbabwe, with free elections, Richard Threlkeld did a New Year’s assessment of the prospects for harmony between the country’s blacks and whites. At New Year’s Eve celebrations and in interviews, Threlkeld talked to blacks and whites about whether they could live together in peace and prosperity, examined their contrasting lives, explored the reaction of whites to the coming black rule, and the conflicts among blacks over who may emerge as leaders. “On the Way to Zimbabwe” was broadcast over CBS News Sunday morning. Threlkeld has reported for CBS from bureaus in Rome, San Francisco, New York and Viet Nam, and has covered the political arena extensively.

A citation goes to Larry Pintak of CBS News for his coverage of the Iran-Iraq War.
