OPC Condemns E.P.A. for Barring Reporters From Event
NEW YORK—May 23, 2018 — The Overseas Press Club of America strongly condemns the Environmental Protection Agency for barring reporters from three news organizations from an event this morning on the impact of toxic chemicals on drinking water at the agency’s headquarters.
The reporters were from The Associated Press, CNN and E & E News.
“This is an unacceptable intrusion into the public’s right to monitor the workings of government and sets a dangerous precedent,” said Deidre Depke, president of the OPC.
The Overseas Press Club is an international association of journalists based in New York City that works to encourage the highest standards in journalism, to educate the next generation of foreign correspondents and to promote international press freedom and the well-being of colleagues in the field.
