VIDEO: The Foreign Hand: How China, Russia and Iran Are Meddling in American Politics
On Oct. 8, the OPC hosted a panel to discuss risks and strategies for countering disinformation in newsrooms, as countries such as China, Russia and Iran wage campaigns of interference in the American political process. The panelists were David Rohde, national security editor at NBC News, and Gordon Crovitz, co-founder and co-CEO of NewsGuard, which counters disinformation with analysis and credibility ratings for news sources.
During the program, Crovitz and Rohde talked about the challenges of a media landscape driven by algorithms, with widespread disinformation shared on social media platforms that are immunized against accountability. They also discussed the scale and severity of threats posed by interference campaigns from Russia, China and Iran.
