From 2001 to 2011, he ran SVB in Silicon Valley and then spent four years living in Shanghai, leading the technology bank’s efforts to set up a joint venture with Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. He was not totally prepared for all that happened. Suffice to say that the collapse of SVB in the U.S. wasn’t its first.
