Politkovskaya Doc Premieres

A documentary film about Anna Politkovskaya was premiered this winter at the Berlin Film Festival.

A documentary film about Anna Politkovskaya, the murdered Russian investigative journalist, was premiered this winter at the Berlin Film Festival. Narrated by Susan Sarandon in the English version, the film is based on interviews with the journalist and her friends, relatives and colleagues. Politkovskaya, whose reporting on the Chechnya war angered the Russian government, was shot dead in the elevator of her Moscow apartment block in October 2006.

Swiss director Eric Bergkraut, who made the documentary, met Politkovskaya when he was making another film about Chechnya. He commented, “Anna does not die in the film…she is very much alive, she is even funny. She was severe with herself and with the truth.” In 2001, Politkovskaya won the first Artyom Borovik OPC Award, given to a Russian journalist for courage, aggressive reporting and independent thought.
