Board Election Slate Brings New Generation to OPC

This year we will elect a new president and other officers. We also will choose nine Active board members and three Associate board members. In filling out our slate, the nominating committee drew from a range of demographics, ages, and media organizations. We included candidates who are working in television, print, radio and photojournalism, as well as those who are pioneering new digital forms. Our slate includes OPC award winners still working in the field, and many who have contributed to the OPC by their service on our awards committees. We continue to encourage a new generation of journalists to take responsibility for the work of the OPC, and we’re thrilled with this year’s candidates.

Correspondents Discuss West Coast Group of OPC Friends

A new group of hacks out in California have been meeting in San Francisco. What started out notionally at the end of 2015 has now grown into a real team of individuals who share in the mission and principles of the OPC and are actively meeting, organizing and networking professionally on a regularly scheduled basis. The group is working with the Overseas Press Club of America to form a West Coast affiliate and is informally using the name OPC West. The OPC board of governors will meet in the fall to discuss how to formalize the relationship.

Call for 2016 Board Nominations

The Nominating Committee is now accepting nominations of candidates for the 2016 Board of Governors’ election. Members are invited to consider running for an open seat on the OPC Board. This year, the OPC will elect nine (9) Active board members and three (3) Associate board members to begin two-year terms. Candidates for the OPC board are requested to file a statement of candidacy, which should combine an overview of the candidate’s qualifications and a sense of what one might contribute to the OPC board.
