Meet the OPC Members: Q&A With Anita Snow

Anita Snow is a veteran international journalist who specializes in the Americas. She currently is based in Mexico City as an editor on the AP regional desk for Latin America and the Caribbean. Previously, she was a UN correspondent for the AP and a 2010 Nieman fellow at Harvard University. She reopened the AP’s Havana office in 1999 and went on to serve as bureau chief for a decade.

Stanley Reed writes about energy, business and environment for The New York Times and The International New York Times. Previously, he worked at BusinessWeek, holding several positions including London Bureau Chief as well as Middle East Correspondent. He was later a reporter-at-large for Bloomberg News. He co-authored, with Alison Fitzgerald, 2010’s In Too Deep: BP and the Drilling Race That Took it Down. He has been based in London since 1996. He won the Best of Knight-Bagehot award from Columbia Journalism School for his coverage of the Iraq war in 2003. He has lived in London since 1996 and has British and U.S. citizenship.

Elena Becatoros has worked as the Southeast Europe bureau chief for the Associated Press, based in Athens, since mid-2007 after stints in London and New York. She has focused on covering the Greek financial crisis for the last five years, with assignments further afield when time permits. Becatoros began her foreign reporting career as an intern at the AP’s Athens bureau in 1997.

Rod Nordland is an international correspondent at large for The New York Times. He has worked as a reporter in more than 150 countries, with postings in Bangkok, Beirut, Baghdad, Cairo, Rome, Sarajevo, San Salvador, Islamabad, London, Kabul, and other places. Before coming to the Times in 2009 he was Newsweek’s chief foreign correspondent, based in London. He began his foreign reporting career for his hometown paper, The Philadelphia Inquirer, covering the [Far East] and Central America. Nordland’s honors have included a share of a Pulitzer Prize for news, and he was also a finalist for a Pulitzer in international reporting. He has won two George Polk awards and several Overseas Press Club awards.
