UPDATE: While the 2020 Annual Awards Dinner was canceled, the OPC is pleased to announce that it will hold its next Annual Awards Dinner on Oct. 22, 2021 at Cipriani 25 Broadway in lower Manhattan. Please mark your calendars now; we are planning a rousing evening of celebration and gratitude.
The Overseas Press Club of America has made the sad but inevitable decision to cancel the club’s annual awards dinner this year, originally scheduled for April 23.
As we confront the unprecedented challenge presented by the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions on gatherings in New York, an in-person event is impossible at this time. We regret the lost opportunity to celebrate the winners face-to-face, but the circumstances that keep us from being together only remind us that the work of international journalists who risk their lives to cover the pandemic and its global repercussions is as vital now as at any time in the OPC’s 81-year history.
So even though we won’t be together in person, we’re going to find other ways to honor the winners, including a virtual awards ceremony. Additional options include video conversations with individual award winners – so stay tuned. We have already secured April 22, 2021 as the date for our next awards dinner.
We know that OPC members and award winners will play a critically important role in this unprecedented moment by keeping the world informed. We thank you for your commitment to our work and look forward to getting through this together.
