Richard Stolley Talks Reporting

After contributing short features to People on a young man who founded an HIV awareness group and an interview with former CIA officer Valerie Plame, Richard B. Stolley, the magazine’s former editor, told The New York Times,  “I don’t have to interview the head of state to enjoy what I’m doing… ."

SANTA FE, New Mexico: After contributing short features to People on a young man who founded an HIV awareness group and an interview with former CIA officer Valerie Plame, Richard B. Stolley, the magazine’s former editor, told The New York Times, “I don’t have to interview the head of state to enjoy what I’m doing – I’ve done that. Reporting, to me, and the writing, in particular, is a joy in itself.” Stolley edited People from its founding in 1974 to 1982. He spent 37 years with Time Inc., People’s parent organization, retiring 15 years ago and moving to Santa Fe three years ago. Stolley, 79, was OPC president 2004 to 2006.
