VIDEO: In the Thick of It – Ukraine
On Feb. 20, the OPC hosted a discussion among four journalists who have been covering the conflict in Ukraine.

Panelists were Isobel Koshiw, a Ukraine-based correspondent for the Financial Times, and Julia Kochetova, a Ukrainian photojournalist based in Kyiv. Luke Harding, Senior International Correspondent for The Guardian, moderated.
During the program, the panelists discussed U.S.-Ukraine relations in light recent comments from President Donald Trump that parrot Russian disinformation, challenges and dangers journalists face while covering the war, differences in how British and American media cover the war, maintaining objectivity in their reporting, the current state of morale on the frontlines, and how long Ukraine could expect to continue fighting without support from the U.S.

Isobel Koshiw has been a journalist in Ukraine on and off since January 2015. Before Russia’s invasion, Isobel was an investigative journalist. She worked on several investigations into money laundering, sanctions evasion, hackers and oligarchs across Ukraine, Russia, the US and Europe. She was born in the UK but spent part of her childhood in Ukraine and speaks both Ukrainian and Russian.
Julia Kochetova‘s work has appeared not only in Ukraine but has been used by a number of top global news organizations including Vice News, Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, Bloomberg, Vanity Fair, The Guardian, Reuters, and NBC. She has won a number of awards including an Emmy, two World Press Photo awards and two award citations from the Overseas Press Club.
Luke Harding has worked for The Guardian since 1996 including in both Ukraine and Russia. He has worked all over the world including stints based in Delhi, Berlin and Moscow and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He has won a number of awards and has been a New York Times number one best selling author. Luke is the author or co-author of nine books which have been translated into 30 languages. His latest book, Invasion, Russia’s Bloody War and Ukraine’s Fight for Survival, was published published by Vintage in New York and Faber in London.
