OPC Insists on Russian Transparency in Investigating Journalists’ Murders

We welcomed Judge Yevgeny Zubov’s decision to allow the public to witness the trial in Moscow of the three men accused of complicity in the murder of Anna Politkovskaya. But then the judge reversed himself, but he was right the first time: Only complete transparency can dispel suspicions that the Russia government is concealing crucial facts in this case.

Hugh Mulligan Hospitalized

Nigeria November 13, 2008

We write to condemn the arrest of Emmanuel Emeka Asiwe, editor of the on-line publication, www.huhuonline.com. A United States national, Asiwe was detained at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport on his arrival from the United States on 28 October. He is the second blogger to be arrested in Nigeria within a week.
